Kacico Dance presents Choosing Chelsea.
Kansas City Metro Area- Kacico Dance presents Choosing Chelsea, a fantastical contemporary dance tale for the whole family with choreography by Kacico Dance Artistic Director, Michelle Diane Brown and original story created by Brown along with Marcy L. North, Professor of English at PennStateUniversity, and sister of Brown. Chelsea, the main character, travels on a journey of choices encountering curious characters and puzzling situations: a shifty road full of rhythm, a hissing trio of coiling snakes, moving doors, a shattered window that comes to life, a game playing quartet of leopards and much more. Kacico Dancers Kathryn Cowan, Lindsay Spilker Tate, Julie DeLancey Rudolph, Shandi Miller, Allison Kaut, Holly Noel Harmison, and Lindsay Stroot bring this enchanting contemporary dance story to life. They are joined by hip hop dancer Essence Brock from KC, KS. The wonderful music that accompanies the dancing includes work by Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Michael Torke, Mondo Beat, Paul Schoenfield and more. Kacico Dance Apprentice Company Auditions Kansas City Metro Area-Auditions are being held June 8, 2008 2:00 - 4:00pm at Kacico Studios East for the Kacico Dance Apprentice Company Intensive. This is a select performance company for 9-12 year old and 13-18 year old males and females. The apprentice company is under the direction of Kacico Dancers Kathryn Cowan, Lindsay Spilker Tate, Allison Kaut and Michelle Diane Brown. Intensive Dates: July 28-Aug 15 Weekdays Only 5:30-9:00pm 5:30pm-9:00pm. Intensive Location: Kacico Studios West 2540 W Pennway, KCMO 64108 All dancers will participate in technical training in modern dance, ballet, improvisation, contact improvisation, participate in discussions on dance related topics and will learn choreography to be performed at the close of the Intensive, August 15. "Michelle Diane Brown, founder and artistic director of Kacico Dance, danced a clever comic solo titled "Restless Leg Syndrome." In a white unitard adorned with fur-like strips of fabric on the legs, she got laughs by playing with and against Edvard Grieg's music, rustling the leg fabric and proficiently mugging with fine comic timing."
