Emily Copeland, dancer and choreographer, is projected to complete her BFA in Dance at the University of Kansas in May 2010. She began her dance training in ballet, tap and jazz at age three. Since joining the University Dance Company in 2007, she has worked with choreographers such as Bill Evans, Niurca Marquez, Jerel Hilding, Patrick Suzeau, Muriel Cohan, Joan Stone and Michelle Heffner-Hayes. While at the university, she also participated in master classes including Pilobolus Dance Theatre, Trey McIntyer, Liz Lerman, Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Sarah Stackhouse, and Karole Armitage. In addition to ballet, modern, and tap, she also studies International ballroom. She has competed in several national ballroom competitions including the 2008 Ohio Star Ball, 2007 Heart of America DanceSport Championship and the 2006 Heartland Ballroom Classic. In the summer of 2009, she attended the Independence Day Ball Championship Dance Camp to study with contemporary ballroom professionals. She is in her second year as assistant coach for competitive ballroom team, KU Dance Sport. This is her first season with Kacico Dance.
